Miyun District is an important transit stop and supply station on the East Asian-Australasian Flyway, with a large number of migratory birds passing through it each year. Currently, the district has recorded 412 species of birds across 72 families of 21 orders. Among them, there are 22 species under national Class-I protection and 70 species under national Class-II protection in China, and 99 species under municipal-level protection in Beijing.
